A Study on the Problem Behaviors according Characteristics of Dementia Elderly

Abstract
The purpose of this study were included the data about the problem behaviors patterns by the dementia severities, gender, causes(AD or MID). The survey was done from Oct. 1 to Nov. 1998 at a dementia agency in seoul. The subjects were 113 dementia elderly over 65 year old.
The results as below
1. The problem behaviors were significant different between mild, moderate and severe dementia. All pattern of behaviors except sex behaviors were different. Disorientation behaviors were most different by severities. Anxiety and agitation behaviors were higher score(2.01¡¾0.82) in mild, disorientation behaviors were higher score (2.88¡¾1.38) in moderate, disorientation behaviors were highest score(4.04¡¾2.09) in severe cases.
2. Disorientation behaviors and wandering behaviors were higher score(2.56¡¾1.03) in Aizheimer dementia. Anxiety and agitation behaviors were higher scores(2.56¡¾1.03) in Vascular dementia.
3. Disorientation behaviors were higher score in women. Sex behaviors were higher score in men. Hostility were freouently behaviors (2.4¡¾1.10) in men but disorientation (3.04¡¾1.78) in women.
Conclusions :
The problem behaviors according characteristics of dementia elderly were significantly different.
Therefore we recognize that data put into the dementia nursing care. Especially we have to remember disorientation, wandering behaviors in AD. Anxiety and agitation behaviors in MD. Sex, hostility behaviors in men.
